The John F.X. Mahoney M.D. Foundation for Advancement in Neurology and Education
About Dr. John Mahoney
In his life and career, John Mahoney was known for many things. Among these were his love for and commitment to his family, an insatiable intellectual curiosity, and a unique brand of compassion and care for others that was a hallmark of his work. As a neurologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton, Carney Hospital, and Quincy Medical Center for 49 years, he improved the lives of countless patients while forging meaningful partnerships and indelible relationships across a variety of disciplines within the organizations he served.
His dedication to compassionate patient care came naturally to John. He loved helping other people, and it paved the way for him to solve even the most elusive neurological enigmas. He was relentless in his work, but then work always seemed like fun to John: he carried it out with his trademark smile and razor-sharp wit.
John was tragically lost to us in April 2020, in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. While his life and career were cut short, the John F. X. Mahoney M.D. Foundation has been established to carry on in maintaining John’s enduring legacy of lifelong learning and seeking solutions and opportunities for others in medicine and education.
